Tigre Delta Boat Tours - What To Expect
Why Tigre Delta Is A Must Visit Destination
Tigre Delta, located just north of Buenos Aires, Argentina, near San Isidro, is a unique destination that offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and recreational activities. Its network of waterways and lush islands makes it an ideal getaway from big city life in Buenos Aires. Taking one of the Tigre Delta Boat tours is a great way to experience another side of Buenos Aires.
One of the primary attractions of the Tigre Delta is its stunning scenery. The delta is characterized by meandering rivers and streams lined with vibrant greenery, providing picturesque views and a serene atmosphere. Visitors can explore this natural beauty from a kayak or on a boat tour, allowing for a close-up experience of the diverse plants and animals. In this post we’re going to concentrate on the boar tour experience.
If you have a chance to explore outside the river boat tour, you’ll find the cultural heritage of the region equally compelling. Tigre has a rich history as a former weekend retreat for the wealthy residents of Buenos Aires, which is reflected in its architecture, such as the iconic Tigre Art Museum housed in a beautiful mock-Gothic building. Additionally, the Puerto de Frutos market offers a blend of artisan crafts, local produce, and unique souvenirs, making it a perfect spot for visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture.
For those seeking outdoor activities, Tigre Delta does not disappoint. Hiking and cycling trails are available for exploration, and fishing is a popular pastime in the area. The delta’s waterways provide ample opportunities for water sports, including paddleboarding and jet skiing.
Tigre Delta also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year. These events showcase traditional Argentine culture, music, and cuisine.
Overall, Tigre Delta's combination of stunning landscapes, cultural richness, and a variety of recreational activities makes it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Argentina. If you’re looking for a taste of this, a Tigre Delta Boat tour is for you. And yes, there are accessible boat tours!
My Escape From The City And Experience With The Islands of Tigre River
My Tigre day trip was a relaxing adventure. I was excited to see wildlife, though disappointingly, I did not spot any of the adorable capybara I had read so much about. Your luck may vary. There was, however, a delightful array of birds and really cool architecture along the river. There was also a charming old phone booth at the dock that provided a nice photo op.
On your trip you can expect to see an array of waterfront homes and businesses. Fun fact, there is no road connecting these homes. Everything is done via the river including transportation to schools, fire and rescue services, and daily commutes to work. Everyone had a dock and a boat as it’s the only form of transportation.
There were also plenty of people rowing along the river, people who were all too happy to smile and wave at us.
Small Group Tigre Delta Tour From Buenos Aires
Tigre Delta Boat Tour Without Roundtrip Transportation From Buenos Aires
This is my first pick for a small group tour of the Tigre Delta. It’s a 1 hour panoramic boat ride around the Tigre River Delta. Your boat tour departs from the Tigre Fluvial station, so you will need to find your own transportation to Tigre. Guests will cruise for a full hour along the rivers of Luján, Carapachay, Angostura, Sarmiento, and Espera, where the Delta Tierra reserve is located. You’ll be able to take in the panoramic views of the Delta while the loudspeaker audioguide tells you all about the region and its many unique characteristics. The tour allows you to enjoy one of the favorite places of many Argentine families, and observe the unique lifestyle of the locals who live on the river delta.
Tigre Delta is an approximately 1 hour bus or train ride from downtown Buenos Aires, making this a perfect half day trip. To get to Tigre from Buenos Aires you can easily take the train. You can read how to get to Tigre from Buenos Aires here.
If you prefer a small group tour of the Tigre Delta that includes pick up from Buenos Aires, this is my pick. This tour will provide round trip coach bus service from Buenos Aires to Tigre. You can also choose to add a tasty lunch in Puerto Madero after the boat tour.
These are the 2 best Tigre Delta boat tours according to reviews. Personally, I chose the second boat tour to avoid having to navigate public transportation. But be warned, Tigre Delta boat tours cost around $20 without transportation from Buenos Aires and $90 with. If you’re looking to save money, you may want to look into taking the train.
Tigre Buenos Aires Wildlife - What Animals Are On The Tigre Delta?
The Tigre Delta is home to a diverse array of wildlife throughout its unique wetland ecosystem. Visitors can spot capybaras, the world’s largest (and cutest) rodents, often seen lounging near the water’s edge. The delta is also rich in birdlife, with species such as herons, kingfishers, and parrots populating the lush vegetation. Additionally, aquatic creatures like the caiman and various types of fish inhabit the delta's waterways.
Is A Buenos Aires Tigre River Delta Tour Accessible?
Both tours I posted above are wheelchair-accessible. Please note that these are two of the very few accessible boat tours of Tigre. Many other group tours require passengers to walk down 5-10 steps to board the tour boat. Be very careful selecting your tour if you decide to go with another tour provider. Again, I’m posting the links to the accessible tours below.
Additional Tips For Visiting Tigre
When taking a Tigre Delta boat tour, consider the following tips to enhance your experience. First, dress in layers, as temperatures can fluctuate during the day, especially on the water. Even though it was about 80 degrees when I visited, it was quite breezy on the river. Bring sunscreen and a hat to protect against the sun, as you'll likely spend several hours outdoors.
It's advisable to arrive early to secure a good seat and enjoy the views without rush. Even though these are small group tours, window seats fill up fast. Don’t forget your camera to capture the stunning scenery and wildlife, and pack snacks and water for the journey, as tours do not provide refreshments. Lastly, be mindful of the local guidelines and respect the natural environment to ensure a sustainable experience. It’s easy for trash to fly off the deck of the boat, so be careful not to litter.
Final Thoughts On Tigre Delta Boat Tours
Taking a Tigre Delta boat tour is a great way to see a different side of the bustling Buenos Aires metro area. The boat ride is a relaxing and comfortable way to see some of the area’s wildlife and plantlife. I was also captivated by the charming architecture of the area. I snapped so many photos, I filled up my memory card. Bonus, it’s also a few degrees cooler on the Tigre, so if you’re visiting in summer like I did, taking one of the Tigre Delta boat tours is a great way to escape the heat and humidity of the city.
