4 Days in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Seven years ago this summer I discovered glamping. I also discovered the most comfortable, high-quality hammocks in the world. This was ideal for someone like me, whose second favorite pastime is napping. I also developed a taste for Toña beer and a love for volcanoes. I practiced my incredibly rusty Spanish with my tour guide, Elvis, while drinking a beer in the back of a seatbeltless Jeep. I took a motorboat across a shark-filled lake to look at an island filled with monkeys. I fell in love with Nicaragua.

How to plan an accessible trip to Kutna Hora’s Bone Church, the Sedlec Ossuary. A guide for travelers with chronic illness, disability and pain… and anyone else who wants to see 40,000 to 70,000 human skeletons arranged into a chandelier.
Czech Out Accessible Prague
Prague is one of my favorite places on Earth, but fair warning, it’s considered only moderately accessible for wheelchair users. It’s also one of those great European cities paved almost entirely in ankle-breaking cobblestone. So if you’re hyper-mobile or walk with a cane like me, the city becomes decidedly less walkable and decidedly more hobble-able with copious breaks. But it is one of the most beautiful cities on Earth, and as such, I wanted to include a blog post about making a somewhat difficult place a little easier to navigate. So, grab a pork sausage and a pilsner and get ready to read all about Prague, the fifth most visited city in Europe, and the number one place in beer consumption!
4 Days, 5 Dogs, 6 Flights, and 1 Trip Around The World Via China
This would be easy enough. On July 4th I would fly twelve and a half hours from Los Angeles to Shenyang, China, have a 3 hour layover, then board the two hour flight from Shenyang to Beijing, where I would spend the night in a hotel by the airport, get up the next morning, meet the dogs at airport check in, and deliver them all to San Francisco. It was a good plan. …Except that’s not how it went at all.
Exploring the Accessible Side of Roatan, Honduras
Roatan is an island off the coast of mainland Honduras, it has a much lower crime rate, it’s largely English speaking, it’s smack dab in the middle of the second largest coral reef in the world, and there are direct flights from Houston, New York, and Miami. The lower crime rate, beautiful natural surroundings, and fewer crowds make it an ideal Caribbean destination.
Combining Travel and Volunteer Work, My Third Trip to China
This trip wasn’t about sightseeing. While China has many spectacular sights, sounds, and tastes, I was here to help feed, medicate and clean up after over one hundred dogs saved from the meat trade and currently being housed at a safe house.

If you have mobility issues, getting around mainland Belize to explore its Maya Ruin sites can be difficult, but not impossible. Find out how you can enjoy these wonderful structures in person.
Injured In Belize - A Cautionary Tale
I love Belize. A lot. But it’s the one country that’s tried to kill me on more than one occasion. Still, its blood lust has not diminished my love for the place and its people. In retrospect, I may bear a tiny bit of culpability in these near-death experiences, so please let me regale you with a few cautionary tales.

Exploring Beijing, China with Chronic Illness, Disability and Pain
Beijing was my first solo trip abroad. It took a lot to overcome my fear of traveling alone, but life is too short to sit back waiting for other people to buy a ticket to your dreams. Get out there and live! The reward is worth fighting through the discomfort.
