Barcelona Street Art
One of the first things I like to do when I travel to any new city is to check out the street art. Street art tells you a lot about the culture and the politics of a place and you get to explore the layout of a city while you take in some art. Barcelona did not disappoint with its art. Barcelona street art adorns walls and shop doors from the Gothic Quarter to El Raval and everywhere in between.
On my first day in the city, I took a street art in Barcelona tour to check out the amazing urban art scene and get acquainted with the city. I’m so happy I did, as our guide was an incredibly knowledgeable artist who explained the different styles of art, and the top street artists, and gave us travel tips for our stay in the city. Sure, you could wander the streets yourself and happen upon tons of murals and work by local graffiti artists, but a tour will give you some extra context. Plus, the tour is relatively inexpensive and it’s wheelchair accessible!
But, if you’d like to explore on your own, I’ve included a ton of Barcelona’s top mural and graffiti art below along with addresses. So, let’s explore the best street art Barcelona has to offer!

Murals in Barcelona
I didn’t see many large-scale murals during my week’s stay in Barcelona. What seemed to be much more popular were small-scale murals painted on shop doors. Nearly every roll-down gate was painted with some kind of unique street art. There was also a wide assortment of stencils and sticker art throughout the city.

Graffiti Barcelona
When it comes to graffiti, Barcelona has a lot. The styles are many and varied. You can see a lot of It represented in the photos below. Local Barcelona graffiti artists tag walls with everything from their names to political art, to abstract designs. Graffiti culture also overlaps with skate culture, something Barcelona is quite known for, We passed a few skate parks loaded with ample graffiti.

Above you can see just some of the styles of street art including stickers, stencils, and 3D art. You’ll see a lot of these same designs popping up all around the city, especially in metro stations, though, according to our guide, unlike New York City, Barcelona is quite good at regularly removing this artwork.

The Kiss
Artist Joan Fontcuberta and ceramicist Toni Cumella asked people to send in personal photos to be used in a large-scale piece in the middle of Barcelona. They then printed 4,000 of these personal shots onto mosaics, arranging them by color and density so that, from afar, the 26-foot-tall mural shows two people kissing. This kiss is a symbol of affection, empathy, and liberty.

Wheelchair Accessibility in Barcelona
Of course the tour I recommended is wheelchair accessible. But if you choose to explore on your own, know that Barcelona is very walkable. It’s a largely flat city with few hills and unlike most of Europe, there is minimal cobblestone.
If you have trouble walking for a long time, you may want to explore on your own at your own pace, as the tour is 2 1/2 hours long and can be taxing. My back was on fire by the end of the tour just from standing for that long. If you use a mobility aid, bring it. I regret not taking my cane. Amature mistake and I should have known better.

A Street Art Tour, Barcelona - Final Thoughts
Not only do I support street art, but I adore street art in all its forms. I think taking a tour of street art in Barcelona gives you a better perspective on the city. You learn a lot about the culture, politics, and even practical things like great restaurants and bars to try during your trip.
A street art tour is also a fabulous way to spend your first day in town as it gives you a good Idea of the various areas of the city like the Gothic Quarter, Poblenou, and Las Ramblas.
